DEN HAAG (PDC) - Latvian people are once again experiencing the fear of a Russian invasion. Even a quarter of a century after the Berlin Wall came down, the threat is still real, concludes the former Latvian president Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga in an interview with newspaper Trouw on the fifth of november 2014.

Vīķe-Freiberga was one of the keynote speakers of the Europe Lecture about peace and security organized by the Montesquieu Institute and the Europe Lecture Foundation. The lecture took place on the 28th of october in The Hague.

In the interview the former president expresses her fear for the unpredictable behaviour of Putin and worries about the general violation of international treaties. She also believes that communism is more alive then ever.
