Following its recognition in the Lisbon Treaty as a formal objective of EU Cohesion Policy, territorial cohesion is now one of the main concerns of European territorial policies. The NTCCP was set up in 2007 to provide technical support for the cooperation of Ministers responsible for spatial development in the implementation of the Territorial Agenda of the EU . It is composed of representatives of the 27 Member States, the candidate countries and cooperating states Norway and Switzerland, together with the European Union institutions, as well as a range of relevant stakeholder organisations at the European level. The group meets regularly every semester, under each rotating Presidency, while its main reference document is the Territorial Agenda 2020: Towards an inclusive, smart and sustainable Europe of diverse regions .
