Within the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of EU Council in the second half of 2012, the informal meeting of the Financial Services Committee (FSC) will take place in Cyprus in July. The FSC was set up on 18 February 2003 by the Ecofin Council with a mandate to provide for cross-sectoral strategic reflection separate from the legislative process; to help to define the medium- and long-term strategy for financial services issues; to consider sensitive short-term issues; to assess progress and implementation; and to provide political advice and oversight on both internal and external issues. The FSC works closely with the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC), especially as regards preparing meetings in the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN).
The agenda of the meeting includes topics on the developments in financial markets, discussion on the systemic importance of the insurance and pension fundssector, selected Financial Stability Board issues and more.
