Political representatives of cities and regions in the EU and its Mediterranean partner countries came together in Brussels for the 4th meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly's commission for sustainable development (SUDEV), chaired by its co-president Hani Abdalmasih Al-Hayek, Mayor of Beit Sahour, Palestinian Authority.
The commission debated sustainable development and energy in the Mediterranean as well as sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean, the latter being the topic of a draft report by rapporteur Michèle Sabban, President of the Assembly of European Regions. Speakers included the Deputy Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean Sotiris Varouxakis, representatives of the European Commission's Directorate-Generals Development & Cooperation and Enterprise & Industry as well as the President of Plan Bleu.
