Common Fisheries Policy: What future for Aquaculture? - Hoofdinhoud
Maria Damanaki, European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries together with Nicolaus Berlakovich, Austrian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management are hosting a high-level conference on the future of European Aquaculture.
The aim of the Conference is to discuss how the European Commission, the Member States, the European Parliament and the stakeholders can contribute to unlocking the potential for the further development of aquaculture and in particular freshwater aquaculture in Europe.
The conference will take place in Salzburg, Austria, on May 11, 2012. Members of European governments, European Parliament as well as representatives of stakeholders throughout the supply chain and civil society will participate in the event.
In her speech, Ms Damanaki will focus on how a reformed Common Fisheries Policy can give impetus to the sustainable growth of European aquaculture. She will propose certain ideas on how to promote aquaculture through an EU coordinated approach based on strategic guidelines, common priorities and exchange of best practices.
The reform of the Common Fisheries Policy aims at creating a new policy which will preserve fish stocks at sustainable levels for the benefit of current and future generations by managing fisheries in a responsible, science-based way.
A joint press conference by Commissioner Damanaki and Minister Berlakovich will take place at 11.15 at the conference venue, Schloss Mondsee, Salzburg.
