| date | July 2 2012 - July 13 2012 |
|---|---|
| city | Maastricht, Luxembourg |
| location | EIPA - European Institute of Public Administration - Luxembourg |
| organisation | European Institute for Public Administration (EIPA) |
Target Group
This two-week course is targeted towards:
-
•civil servants and officials from local, regional or national administrators and EU institutions and agencies;
-
•lawyers, economists, social scientists and people working for non-governmental organisations; and
-
•journalists and teachers who need to gain - or have an interest in - a better understanding of how European law is adopted and implemented at the EU and national levels.
Description
This course is divided into three parts, all taking into account the changes brought about by the Lisbon Treaty. Firstly, it provides a comprehensive view of the constitutional organisation of the European Union, as well as introducing fundamental concepts and principles of European Union law in general (5 days).
Secondly, it offers an overview of specific policy areas (2 days). Lastly, it introduces a practical overview of the implementation of European Union law and the consequences thereof for the EU Member States in terms of administrative capacities and human resources (3 days).
Learning Methodology
A combination of presentations, group exercises, simulations and workshops. During the second part of the course programme (see above), participants will be split into two groups: one focusing on internal market issues; and one covering the area of freedom, security and justice. The course also includes a study visit to the European Court of Justice.
Objectives
The overall objective of this course is to provide participants with a practical understanding of current EU legal issues and the resulting effects on national administrations. This Summer School can entitle participants to credits in connection with their enrolment in the MEIR NewLine Master Programme.
