International MEP-conference The Hague, 22-27 March 2010 - Montesquieu Institute

On Tuesday March 22nd 2010, the 32nd international conference of Model European Parliament (MEP) was opened in The Hague. Her Majesty, Queen of the Netherlands attended this opening.

Approximately 165 high school students, coming from all member states of the European Union and three candidate member states (Croatia, Macedonia and Turkey) participated in the conference, which lasted for a week. During the conference the students discussed current political issues in 'parliamentary commissions'  and voiced their positions in resolutions.

On March 26th and 27th the students debated about the resolutions and voted on them in the 'General Assembly'. This meeting took place at the House of Representatives and was opened by the chairwoman, ms. G.M. Verbeet.

One of the speakers during the final day of the conference on March 27th, was mr. L.W. van Hasselt, Director of the Representation of the European Commision in the Netherlands.

This international MEP-Conference was organised by the Model European Parliament Foundation and supported by the Montesquieu Institute.
