Better control of European policy - Hoofdinhoud
Since January 2009 the Montesquieu Institute is facilitating a three-year research project on new accountability mechanisms in national parliaments. The research will be carried out by Dr. Philipp Kiiver, University of Maastricht, and will be financed by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) through a Vedi subsidy.
The research investigates whether or not national parliaments can make use of the same methods of control, commonly applied by non-parliamentary institutions, such as the national courts of audit and judicial powers. This possibility will be tested through an empirical study on how national parliaments deal with European bills.
Kiiver is a member of the Montesquieu Institute (Maastricht). He is Associate Professor at the University of Maastricht, European and Comparitive Constitutional Law, and the author of, amongst others, a monography on the role of national parliaments in the European Union and co-author of an introduction to comparitive constitutional law.
